ATAAK! automatically aligns two audio files of similar content, for example:
- Adjustment of timing between different instrument recordings
- Adjustment of tempo for the editing of takes in classical music
- Automatic synchronization of overdubbed vocal recordings with original speech
- Automatic beat synchronization of multiple songs for DJ software
How does ATAAK! work?
ATAAK!’s operation can be split into two key stages: Analysis and Processing.
- During Analysis: ATAAK! computes the difference between the two audio signals over different points in time
- During Processing: Applies accurate and transparent time-stretching to synchronize the two audio signals, powered by ELASTIQUE PRO
ATAAK! is uniquely flexible, and allows the user to select a domain in which the audio files may be similar. The four selectable categories are Pitch, Timbre, Loudness and Onset Time. Some examples of how these categories might be applied include:
- Lead and Harmonized Backing Vocal - Different Pitch but similar Loudness and Onset Times
- Layered Instruments - Same Pitch and Onset Time but different Timbre
- Drums - The Pitch category is mostly irrelevant
After calculating the two audio files’ similarity across the four domains, the relative tempo changes over time are extracted by finding the most likely solution given the similarity measure.
The ATAAK! algorithm then begins the Processing stage, which uses our ELASTIQUE PRO algorithm to time-stretch one of the audio files, bringing both files in sync with one another.
